THE
SCHOOL AND ITS TRACK RECORD
|
|
Lingua Language School is a private enterprise
established in 1990 and since then successfully operating in the local community.
It is considered to be among the best and most popular language teaching
centres in town.
On average we teach about 300 students every year, representing all age groups
and coming from all walks of life.
The school employs Poles as well as native speakers of English and German.
Currently there are 12 teachers on the staff, all forming a very good team.
The essential part of the enterprise is ELT bookshop,
which enables Lingua teachers to have free access to the latest ELT
publications by OUP, CUP, Pearson (Longman), Heinemann and others.

THE COURSES |
|
Our school organizes
General English and German courses for
- children
- teenagers
- adults
Students
proceed through several levels of advancement
- in English courses up to FCE and
CAE levels
- in German up to Zertifikat Deutsch
We see to it that there is
no mixing of age groups in particular classes and that the maximum number of
students in a class does not exceed 12.
The
academic year
begins in October and lasts til mid-June; it is divided into two 4-month terms.
An average course on one level comprises 120 hours (45-minute periods) per year. This means that a particular class of students will have 4 hours of study
per week (2 meetings of 90 minutes).
Classes run in the afternoon and evening (between 3.20 – 8.10 p.m.)
It is often the case that
two teachers, a Pole and a native speaker of English, are responsible for one
class of students: the former focuses on the teaching of grammar whereas the
native speaker on fluency practice.

| METHODOLOGY
|
|
We are trying to keep up-to-date with the latest trends in ELT. The methodology is based on a holistic approach to
teaching with the emphasis on the integrated development of the four
skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing),
the theme-based teaching of vocabulary and a guided
discovery approach to grammar.
Teachers are obliged to follow the coursebooks but are also encouraged to
choose from a variety of back-up resource materials available in the school
library. |

TEACHERS’ DUTIES |
|
You will be expected to prepare thoroughly for your
classes and also be required to participate in fortnigtly in-service
teacher-training sessions conducted by the Director of Studies.
They involve micro-teaching, discussing methodological
issues as well as sharing ideas and teaching experience.
Among your administrative duties there will be
continuous assessment of your students progress, correction of written works
and tests and filling in special end-term reports which give an account of your
students’ progress.
We hope that you find the information
above of some interest.
